Old-Haspengouw Baekel

Aspect and structure
  • The (non-perforated) facing brick is sanded on five sides.
  • The surface may be given a frog (a slanted oblong groove) on its bed.
  • The firing process takes place in a gas-heated tunnel kiln.
  • The bricks have a rough structure, irregular shape, and a strong resemblance to recovered bricks.
Colour
  • The brick has a reddish base.
  • The typical old aspect is the result of the wet and unbaked bricks’ treatment with various admixtures.
  • The types of sand used are responsible for a rather dark red palette with white and black sediments against a red shaded base.
  • The colours shown are a near reflection of reality.
