A start profile is not mandatory, but it is often used as a tool to place the insulation boards straight and accurately.
The profile is screwed to the bottom of the façade, beneath or behind the XPS insulation, and remains there permanently. It has no load-bearing function – the insulation is fully bonded to the substrate.
A start profile is particularly recommended:
- In renovation projects, where the substrate is often not completely flat or straight.
- As a placement aid to create a level starting line.
- For a neat finish of the lower façade zone.
- As extra protection against rising damp or pollution.
- When a plinth made of blue stone or other finishing is provided at the bottom of the façade – the profile ensures a clean transition and correct height determination.
- For façades with a sloping incline, such as in a veranda or extension with a sloping roof – in these cases, the profile provides a clear reference point for the start of the insulation.
In summary: It is not a mandatory part of the system and it does not carry any load, but it does help to work cleanly and efficiently – especially in renovations, sloping lines, or plinth finishes.
