For a correct and durable installation of our ATG-certified façade insulation system with brick slips, the use of joint sealing tape – often referred to as Compriband – is mandatory at all points where the insulation connects to other materials. This tape plays a crucial role in the waterproofing and lifespan of the façade system.

Where should the joint sealing tape be placed?

The joint sealing tape must always be applied at the junction between the XPS insulation and foreign materials, such as:

  • Windows and door frames
  • Window sills and thresholds
  • Roller shutter boxes, roof edges, or other façade penetrations
  • Lintels, concrete elements, and other structural parts
  • Expansion or movement joints

⚠️ Important: The tape must be placed between the XPS insulation of the system and the adjacent material – not between the brick slips and that material. This is crucial for the proper functioning and certification of the system.

Why is this mandatory?

1. ATG-certification
The use of a correct joint sealing tape is explicitly mentioned in the installation instructions of the ATG certificate (ATG 2960 – view the document here). Without this tape in the correct position, the system is non-compliant, which may have consequences during inspections or in case of damage.

2. Condition for 10-year system warranty
If processed correctly according to the guidelines, including the application of joint sealing tape where required, we offer a 10-year warranty on the system. Therefore, the placement of the tape is not only technically required but also in your best interest.

3. Much more durable than sealant
Where sealant was used in the past, experience shows that this material degrades faster:

  • Lifespan of approximately 5 to 10 years, depending on UV and movement
  • Can dry out, crack, or come off
  • Requires maintenance or repair

4. The correct joint sealing tape, on the other hand:

  • Has an expected lifespan of at least 20 years
  • Is elastic, automatically fills the joint
  • Absorbs movement stresses
  • Is maintenance-free

5. Technically certified and optionally available from us
We offer a high-quality joint sealing tape that meets all the requirements outlined in point 5.2.4 of the ATG certificate:

  • Pre-compressed polyurethane foam with acrylic/polymer dispersion
  • Rainproof up to at least 600 Pa
  • Vapor permeable from inside to outside
  • UV and aging resistant
  • Suitable for joints 5 to 12 mm wide
  • Functional at a substrate temperature of +5°C

6. You may use a different joint sealing tape, but it must guarantee exactly the same performance to maintain compliance and warranty.
