Energy transition

Bricks have the advantage of longevity and circularity. However, there is also the challenge of making the production process in particular - firing the brick - more energy efficient. We fire our bricks in tunnel kilns using natural gas and aim for a total CO2 reduction of 42% by 2030 compared to 2022. By 2050, climate neutrality should be a reality.

This reduction results not only from the energy transition, but also, for example, from the introduction of eco sizes (which require less raw materials and energy due to their narrower dimensioning) and from investments in heat recovery. The next major challenge is to adjust the raw material mix to reduce CO2 emissions during the firing process, along with electrification of machines or heating of ovens.

Voka Charter Sustainable Entrepreneurship

The development and implementation of a supported, sustainable strategy is a multi-year project that requires ongoing commitment. To accelerate the process, we have been participating in the Voka Charter Sustainable Business (VCDO) for several years.

Thanks to this initiative, we are able to continue to develop concrete projects and take steps towards a more sustainable business. The charter also serves as a recognised label, enabling us to transparently communicate our efforts and progress with our stakeholders.

After the successful completion of the first phase of the UNITAR | CIFAL Flanders PCA2030 Pathway through the VCDO, we received United Nations certification as an SDG PIONEER 2023 in 2023.
